BP Chan training Santi Shi from Hsing I Chuan.
1) Not shown – heel together in Ba ,八(8 in Chinese), hands with pinkeys at side center, eyes looking “slantingly upward”
2) Using the intent, drill and pivot on the heels driven by the intent and the coiling inward of the middle finger to the femur bones center, this combined action causes the feet to form a y footing. The Shen is stimulated as the senses search the distance.
3) The body turns to the right and naturally & comfortably comes to a stop as the joints reach their limit (their range of movement before twisting the bones), driven by the uncoiling of the hands with the pinkys moving to and pivoting on the sideseam of the pants. The eyes gaze downward at 45 degrees. If you look downward past 45 degrees, you will pull yourself out of center.
4) Using the 意 Yi (intent) with eyes as Guide and Guard. Raise the hands with the intent of touching lightly your fingertips (stimulating the five elements). Use care not to close your neck by over bending the vertebra , instead, let the eyes gaze 45 degrees upward towards the Yintang (3rd eye). The upward movement of the arms must be balanced with a downward internal sinking . This sinking is aided by the emptying of the mind, releasing energy downward.
5 & 6) Relax the shoulders and hips and drop the elbows & tailbone pulling the arms downward in front of the eyes. the eyes swoop down and out as the pinky ,ring, middle ,and index fingers brush the air downward along Du Mai (Governing Vessel end , center line face above upper lip) to Ren Mai (Conception Vessel , center line face lower lip downward) , pivoting on the Middle finger tip (Zhong Chong / P9).
Continuing from above wrap & coil the thighs inward , sit in you Kwa as the eyes guide & guard looking out “slantingly upward”. Raise the left foot (a finger width off the ground) coming to rest in Northern Chicken with the right upper hand middle finger to the lower hands index finger. This single weights the practitioner causing the spine to open.
7) Keeping the legs wrapped & coiled , with the breath , slowly descend the left foot and let the palms fall through the gravitational center of the femur bone into the Kua or inguinal crease . Once the palms pass the diaphragm , the crown point (Bai Hui – Hundred Meetings / GV 20) is aroused and pressed upward, (assisted by the upward pressing of the tongue to the roof of the mouth (Magpie Bridge) ) in opposition of the seating palms. Slightly tuck the chin to lever open the back of the neck. Eyes gaze slantingly upward, as if one hears a distant rustling in the dark. The mind is AAA (active, aware, alert) and the senses are all stimulated .
8) Coil the palms into fists starting with the pinky then ring, middle, index fingers and thumb, draw the fists letting the inner arms rub the flank. Seat the wrist. Do the above with a slight turn to the right.
9) Continue sinking into the rear foot and sink the tailbone in opposition of the upward drilling of the right fist guided & guarded by the eyes. The fist must drill up past the mouth, both protecting the face and centering the whole action.The eyes look through the heart of the fist. The body turns slightly to the left together with the rising of the fist.
10) The left fist drills upward through the middle fist (the forearm is 3 fists long).The fist must drill up past the mouth ,both protecting the face and centering the whole action.The eyes gaze through the heart of the left fist.
11) Sit down in your kua as you “tear cotton” by pulling the right palm toward the gravtational center of the kua, simultaniously the eyes guide & guard the left fist which opens into a facing upward palm along with the right fist. The two palms fall & overturn to end at their destination . Don’t ask your teacher; ask your body where they land. Ask gravity…
