BP CHAN TRAINING THE YANG 24 POSTURE FORM
The 24 Posture form was created in 1956 by a committee of Masters in response to the Chinese health crisis . Many Doctors fled China during the Cultural Revolution . This left a hole where disease could creep in. The government insisted that it’s citizens take a role in their own health. This is when many citizens were assembled in various parks to learn this Simplified Taijiquan. This Simplified Taijiquan made health accessible to more people more quickly . BP Chan used the form sequence provided by the Chinese government, however, he changed the postures to his liking . The large postures that are normally practiced are good for opening up the joints and lengthening the tendons, however, these larger postures are not good for fighting . Mr. Chan trains both left and right styles of the form to balance out his skills.
This footage is shared with the kind courtesy of Mr. David Saltman ! It must be stated that this is very old footage of Mr. Chan and in no way reflects the heights to which he climbed . This is especially true of his use of the eyes … BUT, WE don’t want to hoard this treasure . This is an act of Reverence.
***Cheng Man Ching created the first Taijiquan Short Form . The Form has 37 postures in response to Song Shu Ming’s 3& 7 form which claims to have a direct lineage to Zhang San Feng with no relation to Chen Village. Professor Zheng removed the double weight postures that violated his interpretation on the Taiji Classics.
