Martial applications- separate and kick , High Pat the Horse
The following footage shows me explaining the martial application of Separate and Kick into the posture High Pat the Horse. The first part shows how to transition from the kick into a shoulder strike even while the attacker tries to push you over. The trick to the action is to release the tailbone. shoulders , elbows , wrists, and foot and to allow them to drape and sink . Both Arms form embracing palms to assist in warding off the attack. The attack is routed through the curve of the arms which causes my opponents energy to get wasted tangetally . The release of my own energy downward can often grab my opponent’s energy and pull it into my foot. The feeling described by my partners is that they become weak ; even when they try to push harder. It is very similar to an object floating in a stream getting caught in the current and pulled down a waterfall. The High Pat the Horse Posture can be used defensively against a pushing ,pulling , or striking action. it uses a concept that is sometimes referred to as “threading”. I draw my right arm through my left palm as if drawing thread through a needle. This action caused by the release of my Kuas pulls the opponents face into the waiting palm . The demo of this action shows how I have to “tag up” by sinking my Chi to my left foot. I will not be able to do the movement if I do not first “tag up”. The action does not require strength which is why in this demo I actually lightly touched my partners foot with my foot so that he may see how lightly I have to touch him in order to tag up. This is a very subtle and very interesting transition.
