Push hands basics – ” A time for Yin and the time for Yang “
When training the single hand fixed foot push hands exercise. It is important to know when you are on target, and when you are off target. When you are on target , you may use a following or attacking Jin. When you are off target , you must always use a following Jin . If you picture of the body’s topography and do a cross-section looking from the feet to the head, then there is an uphill section and a downhill section. Essentially once you have crossed your opponents center line or your center line , you must become Yin. The Crown point however must be suspended or else all other skills will be lost. It is extremely important to know when to follow and went to lead.
