White Crane Spreads Wings – Not just another pretty posture
The posture ” White Crane Spreads Wings” from Yang Family Taijiquan Is a posture that embodies Yin and Yang beautifully. It is not just balanced externally but internally as well. When teaching martial applications in the internal arts , we often start by showing how to move the body freely while being held by a resistant training partner. The following example shows Aaron seizing my wrists. I respond by splitting his energy. This is accomplished by me combining my internal weight shift with the release of my right shoulder . this causes Aaron to fall into my right wrist and allows me to use his weight to load my Jin . I then wrap his wrists into my ward off. I set my intention through his arms into his upper spine . I direct my Jin from my right arm through his left while at the same time seating my left hand. The Jin pushes his body to the right and he will instinctually hold on to my left wrist seeking balance. The combination of these two energies causes his right foot to step across my empty left foot so that I may easily kick his groin. The other method shown may be used against a push or a punch and involves pivoting the body to ” Open the door”. This action can cause your opponent to fall into emptiness and extend the right arm endangering their elbow to various attacks. The following are a couple of ideas for the more Martial minded practitioners.
