A short explanation on one of the biggest secrets in Tai Chi Chuan

I said to one of my students that he would never defeat me because it is always 2 on 1. It is always my conscious mind teaming up with his subconscious mind to defeat him. When you allow yourself to be dragged around by your

subconscious mind it is similar to a person being dragged around by their dog , you have to get your dog to heel and to only move with you and not in conflict with you. This concept is called. " Bu Dui , Bu Ding " and it is often translated as "don't insist don't resist ", or no fight or flight. When you are not exhibiting fight or flight, then you are in a state of stillness. This still state allows one to observe with calm and clarity. This is one of the reasons that traditional teachers do not allow questions when they teach because when a person is forming a question, their mind is not still, nor is it empty and receptive. Holding onto that question and waiting to ask , It also occupies the space for the answer to land. If you interrupted my teacher with your mind's subconscious comments and questions ,it would not yield the results you were hoping to accomplish. if you asked to see that move one more time, you would only be shown that move one more time. After a short period of this, you would learn to not let your mouth just open when your mouth wants to open but actually stay present through the presentation where your question might actually be answered before you ask it. You also learned because you did not want to put yourself in a bad situation by just allowing your subconscious mind to speak. Eventually this translates to your movement . This state of emptiness is necessary for the higher achievements to develop, and they simply will not develop when one does not allow the exercise to train their mind.
